we grow baby carrots
where do baby carrots come from? well, I think the store ones are cut up big carrots, but at our house all that we are able to grow are baby carrots!! They taste good, I just wish there were more of them.

introducing: pepa and francisca
My two New Hampshire Reds needed naming, and I went with a spanish theme. I think all the rest will follow suit, but well see :)
Pepa is lighter and francisca (pronounced: franthisca) is the darker. In the picture above they are the two behind the bearded chicken. Pepa is in the top left, Francisca is in the middle of the shot.
Below francisca is the one in front, pepa is behind her.
These two chickes are super friendly, probably my friendliest of them all (or most likely the best beggars). They are New Hampshire Reds and are 17 week old pullets (meaning young female chickens, under one year). They will start laying soon and I can't wait to see what colour their eggs are!!!

a good egg. aka ¡celebración a la bungaree!
our first egg! seriously how exciting is that? well, I think it super-grand...is that exciting enough for you? All this time caring for these chickies is paying off...and the egg is beautiful. The boys are so happy. j was a tad confused though, as when hurried him out to see how cool what I just found was, he took the egg in his hand very gently and said: " is there something special inside?" He has been waiting for eggs, and he knows that we eat eggs, but I think I though maybe the chicken had laid him an extra special gift...maybe a chocolate egg !!:)
